Æther Pool Empty
PostSubject: Æther Pool   Æther Pool EmptyFri 24 Jan 2014 - 18:35

When I first came on-board, I had a lot of ideas that i wanted to put forth, so that I could flesh them out, maybe make something of them, or just make sure they were there when I had need of them.
That has not changed- but I finally decided that trolling around and resurrecting threads really isn't the best way to do that, and is in fact counterproductive (I am deeply sorry).

Sooooo,
Empress Kristy was kind enough to create this blog for me, and so this is where I shall make notes of everything
Eeeeeverrrythiiiiiiiiing

I don't know how often I will be posting in here, but I intend to do at least a post a week, and more if I have the time. There may not be much to the idea- hell, it may not be much more than blankitty blank blank; or, it could be a couple thousand words of awesome (i wouldn't hold your breath... no seriously, there's poison vapors in here. Don't do it).
At any rate, this first topic is going to be all about characters and creatures. Heroes, villains, monsters, fantastic, realistic, medieval, sci-fi, whatever. Any and all strictly character ideas I have will go here. Maybe I will use them for stories and campaigns, maybe I won't, but people are one of the most necessary components to anything a writer can do. Without people (or living things in general) nothing happens.

So, without further ado,

A couple of weeks ago I had the idea pop into my head for a cambion (read: half-demon) swordsman. I never named him, but for the sake of this topic we shall refer to him as Zeta.
I designed Zeta using D&D 3.5 rules (I do that a lot), but decided that he would make a better story character than a player character. More on that later.
Physically, Zeta is a very tall individual, breaking 7 feet without accounting for the fan-like set of horns he sports in a coronal line across his scalp, which are all over a foot in length. He is made of lean, ropy muscle, overlaid by leathery skin. His entire body is laced with scars, mementos of many human lifetimes of warfare. I never pictured many facial features, but I know his eyes, and they are tired and sad- eyes that have seen too much pain and suffering.
I know Zeta wears armor, but that was never the highlight of his gear for me. The highlights in that department are his shield and his sword. The shield is a big, rectangular affair, like the ones popularized by gladiators in the Colosseum in Rome, the primary difference being the front of this monstrosity is covered, covered in foot-long spikes. His sword, reserved in a sheath riveted to the back of the shield, was once a greasword. This might seem unusual, or impossible, but keep two things in mind: Zeta has a very powerful, sure sword hand (read: monkey grip), and I did say once. Yeah, the blade is an inch thick and wide as Zeta's palm, but the blade is also broken, so not counting the grip the sword is only a few fingers over 2 1/2 feet in length. Other than those two items, Zeta's gear remains pretty vague: he has a medium-sized backpack and a heavy traveling cloak, but that's about all I've got.

Zeta has spent decades fighting. Combat and violence are all he has known for much of his life. When he grew tired of the Blood Wars, he came to the Material Plane looking for a fresh start. What he found was that while his talents as a swordsman were in great demand, few people wanted to hire him, at least for long, and always only to fight. Never something as simple as body-guarding or watch-duty, oh no- he was wanted in the very middle of the action, at the center of all the death and destruction.
But this is not what Zeta sought.
Though he is very good at what he does (he is a powerful, in some ways supernatural swordsman), Zeta has long grown weary of killing. He is sick of seeing fear in the eyes of those he approaches, even with his sword sheathed. And most of all, he is tired, tired of being reviled for being what he is: that he was born a cambion is not something he can change, much as he might wish, but no matter where he goes, he is either rejected immediately, or only minimally accepted so long as war is on the horizon.
So, he has taken to wandering the land, seeking to see as much of the world as he can, because he knows that one day death will come for him as she has come for all those whose blood stains his hand...
Zeta doesn't get mad, or vengeful, or bitter, or even sad. All he is is tired and lonely, looking for acceptance in a world that has none for someone like him. He doesn't even hate or regret his past, he just wants it to stop being his present reality.

I originally thought of Zeta as kind of a Drizzt-like figure- excellent at what he does, rejected for both what he is and what he doesn't want to be, wandering the land in search of a place to belong, but never finding it.
Zeta doesn't get mad, or vengeful, or bitter, or even sad. All he is is tired and lonely, looking for acceptance in a world that has none for someone like him.

Real Name: CLASSIFIED
Code Name: Animus
Gender: Female
Y: 19
Height: 1.7 m
Weight: 53 kg
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Hazel
Powers: Advanced Animation

Animus was a character idea I had for Tim's Alpha campaign, in case anything unfortunate ever happened to Quinn. Before you even ask, no I never really developed a real name for her either- if I think of one, that is what editing is for.
Anyway, Animus was a pretty normal, laid-back kind of girl, kind, polite, caring, all that jazz. She was decently intelligent, and had a level head on her shoulders.
Background-wise, I had very little, other than that Animus had had her power for some time when I first thought of her, long enough that she already had a fairly extensive file on her. She had even run some tests on her powers, all of which is fairly public record.
Her power was very fun, because she could animate anything, and give it actual sentience. Talking, limited thinking, the works. Whatever she animates is almost without exception polite and caring, especially where she is concerned. Objects animated in such a way also seem to have some knowledge of what has happened to and around them, and will bear characteristics from said environment (so yes, a gun would know perfectly well what it is meant for, and would have knowledge of who has used it against who, and why). Not even Animus herself is aware of how or why they gain such knowledge, but doesn't fret too much about it.

Now, the major drawback to her power is that it is always on. Always. And her control over it is limited to how rested she is. This might not sound like that major of a problem, but Animus is also a clinical insomniac. She might, Might, get 2-3 hours of sleep a night, and sometimes none at all. So yeah, if she has managed to get some sleep she can limit spontaneous animations to specific objects (like her car), but by the time she gets to 36 hours without sleep (which is common), she has almost no control at all. This is bad, because not only is she randomly animating furniture and buildings by that point, but they are all chattering worriedly at her, preventing her further from getting any sleep, but she is also virtually incapable of asking them to be quiet by that point.
The longest she ever went without sleep was part of a testing initiative, where she went five days without resting. Individual threads in the doctor's coat started talking to them, and Animus was also fairly certain she could hear individual atoms.
Still, she can make anything around her do whatever she wants. And a strange added plus is that she really doesn't mind much of anything anymore- once you've had your own clothes talk about you, you really don't give a flying fuck about anything anymore.
She is also really well known at her college, because there was a big controversy raised around her. She loves attending sports events to cheer her team on, but since her power is fairly public, a lot of opposing teams accused her of aiding her home team. Her being her, she pretty passively said, okay, i'll just watch from a sports bar somewhere. A great number of students who knew her, however, were indignant that officials would bar her from attending for something she had almost no control over. Some of her friends on the teams were the most vocal, because even without her power she was considered a good-luck charm. There is actually a system of verifying her presence at many of the local pubs, to comfort the student body that she is still watching.

One Badass Babysitter

I was on Pinterest reading a bunch of pins of creepy stories, and something about the ones involving babysitters just clicked with me
so, I created a babysitter for a creepy/supernatural setting

I didn't picture many of her physical characteristics, other than that she is tall and has a wide, devil-may-care grin that says 'everything will be fine, just let me take care of it'.
She is an avid actress and cosplayer, and often sports a costume of some sort to her babysitting gigs, just for fun. simple, hard-wearing costumes, but fun ones too. The night of my original idea, she was in a western outlaw getup: leather pants, boots, duster, and leather cowboy hat.
oh, and a gun.
She takes caring for her charges very seriously, and in addition to being an actress, she is an avid gun girl, and owns and carries several.
She's not stupid, when she goes to a house for a job, she puts the gun where the kids can't reach it, and keeps the bullets in full-moon clips in her pocket.
In my original concept, she also has a boyfriend who is into bdsm, so she was wearing a wide leather collar that came in handy for protecting her neck. Thinking about it now, i question it.
anyway, she gets along great with kids, entertaining them and making them feel safe. The parents happily trust their children's lives to her. on this particular evening, she goes to the house, puts the kids to bed, starts watching some tv
there is a knock at the door
she puts some bullets in the gun, and keeps it close
she answers the door
there's a little girl of about 8 standing there, in a thin white dress, in the snow and cold.
little girl asks for her help, something about a problem down the road
Our girl smiles, holsters the gun
grabs her duster, flips it on
spins hat onto her head
and gestures for the girl to lead
aaaaaaaaand from there it gets kind of fuzzy and unambiguous

at one point a giant monster tries to attack the little girl. our chick slams it face-first into the asphalt while saying, 'down, ugly'.
and at another, the little girl gets a piggyback ride and tries to bite the babysitter- and gets stopped by the collar

no name, no story, just a fun idea i had that i didn't want to waste

PostSubject: Re: Æther Pool   Æther Pool EmptyFri 28 Feb 2014 - 16:32

Christine Kelly
AKA: Salamander

This is a character that I actually came up with for a concept in the game Arkham City. In the game, there are three major gangs, run by Harvey Dent (Two-Face), Oswald Cobblepot (Penguin), and the Joker, and if you were a prisoner in Arkham City and weren't associated with one of these three gangs, you were generally screwed, without guaranteed access to food, water, heat, etc. in the middle of Gotham winter. So, me being me, I thought of another gang that was born in those cold streets, which was a little bit different, primarily because it was centered around ^this girl, Christine Kelly.

Christine, like several other characters in the game, would have been thrown in here for one of two reasons: she was either in the prison system during the time Arkham City was established (weird, but okay), or she opposed/presented a threat to Hugo Strange and the AC project as a whole, and was put inside to keep her quiet. Considering I only pictured her as about 17-18 years old, I am not really sure which one applies. Aaaaaanyway...
Chris would have been freezing in the cold, and possibly abused on the streets. When I first came up with the concept, she encountered a new gang, and she asked them to keep her safe and protected. In return, she could provide them with modern comforts that they had long been without. To prove this, she set up a conductive room in one of the lower levels of an abandoned building, which was connected to the entire electrical grid.
This is where it gets interesting: Ms. Kelly is a superhuman. She produces bio-electricity in enormous quantities, enough so that she could power the entire building and everything around it. Using this power, she could give her protectors light, heating, the ability to cook or properly refrigerate food, watch television and find out what was going on, operate surveillance systems, and so on. Most of these things we here and now take for granted, but inside the walls of AC only a very select few had access to these luxuries (at least, from what I can tell). So, Chris Kelly would be a valuable asset to anyone she came across.
Now, why wouldn't she just do this for herself, and use her powers to keep everyone else away? I mean, why trust a band of rogues who might decide you are too much of a hassle if you have enough power to fry everyone in a hundred-foot radius? Two reasons: a- she is young and scared. b- she is a natural-born victim; she hates violence, is terrified of having it inflicted upon her, and is utterly unable of fighting back.
Luckily for her, Chris' power also comes with a form of safeguard: it is directly linked with her health. While it might work for a lot of rogues and gangbangers to simply beat a person until they get what they want, beating Christine would only ensure that you get absolutely nothing. Even getting a simple cold could prevent her from producing as much electricity as she potentially could.
I mean, sure, if you don't care about having a living generator, or just want to keep anyone else from having power, killing her really wouldn't matter much to you. But that' my point: in AC, people are desperate. They are freezing, starving, and scared; so when a girl comes along who says that she can give you the power to be comfortable, you bet your ass that Somebody, in fact a Lot of somebodies, would fight tooth and nail for that privilege.

Thing is, as long as people are willing to take care of her, she doesn't mind how many there are. After all, isn't it better to have two dozen people looking out for you than one? As far as she is concerned, there isn't much difference in supplying electricity for ten people or a hundred. And that's just it- With what can be provided vs what is being demanded, the idea of joining a group like this, for mutual comfort and protection, would be incredibly appealing in a place like AC.
And the thing is, once you have provided the basic creature comforts to people, and proved to them that they will continue to have access to them, they tend to become much more reasonable. More reasonable tends to lead to more organized, which leads to greater efficiency and greater acquisition, which provides more and better creature comforts. And so it continues.

Kelly would end up getting nicknamed 'Salamander' by on of the people who joined on, an ex-military man who really started training the gang. He saw her down in her conducting room, which she had filled with blue electricity, and compared it to the mythical animal and the traits ascribed to it; Kelly hates it because it doesn't make sense: she's electricity not fire. However, the gang liked it, and the name stuck, much to her chagrin.

And since I know it would probably be asked, no, the majority (if not the entirety) of the gang does not want to screw her senseless, despite the fact that they are in a prison and she is one of the only women around. Why? As one of said gang members put it, having sex with Salamander would be like having sex on an electric chair. Sure, Chris has good control, but all it takes is one moment's loss in concentration and you are going to be the direct pathway for 100,000 volts trying to find ground. Not a healthy proposition, since the electric chairs of old usually used somewhere around 2,000 volts. So yeah, not a good idea.

Welp, that about covers that idea. Hope you liked it
Oh, and if you want to know what it might look like inside Salamander's conducting room, look at this picture:
Æther Pool Nikola-Tesla-in-his-Lab-nikola-tesla-3361724-746-600
And imagine about five times as much electricity, going from wall to wall, coming from her, in the middle.

My God, here's a way to make one screwed-up character:

You have a female character, a nurse, who is pregnant.
She and her fiance go out into the woods for a nature walk
As they walk along the trail, the ground gives out from under them, and they make a rough tumble down the hill, over through trees and over rocks.

When they finally reach the bottom and come to a stop, she can tell her fiance is dead- the human neck is not supposed to bend at that angle.
Also, she is bleeding. She can tell that she is miscarrying, and that if she doesn't do something she is going to die here.
So, she takes the pocketknife from her dead fiance's pocket, and performs surgery,
On herself
To take out the unborn child.
Having done that, she manages to bandage up her guts and stumble back to the car, where another couple happens to spot her, and call the rangers and an ambulance.

She lives
but at what cost to her psyche?
What kind of person would events like this turn you into?
Nothing good, I'm fairly certain

TwistedKnightly

TwistedKnightly is the online name of a teenaged girl, a true computer prodigy
Prodigy as in: the U.S. government is trying to shove a job offer down her throat, and she doesn’t even have a license for anything yet.

Back up a bit: She started teaching herself code and programming out of some old college textbooks when she was incredibly young. She doesn’t know why she was so good at it- it just came naturally, flowing from her fingertips, mind, and the tip of her tongue.
She started hacking just after her 10th birthday.

When she hacked (and as she continues to hack today) she never does so to gain personal info, steal, or cause damage. Hell, most of the time she will break in just to leave a message to the person she hacked about what they should do to better protect their information. She hacks because it is fun and challenging- after she breaks into a place she leaves her message and moves on.

Still, a hacker is a hacker, and an online code-breaker of her skill level soon attracts attention from all sources. One of these was the United States Federal Investigations Bureau. What’s funny is that she actually back-hacked them when she was 13
…for the sole purpose of leaving them a video from her webcam saying something along the lines of:

“Hi I know you’re there my name is ___ this is the exact reason why I am hacking Feel free to keep eyes on me oh by the way here’s where the hole in your system is look forward to getting to know you!

And what’s even funnier, she does get to know them.
Well enough that when she is forced to move to another city in high school, she sends them another video giving a heartfelt goodbye to each individual member of the team
“This is TwistedKnightly, signing off”

Within a week of relocating, she finds the new FBI crew sent to watch her.
She sends them a video too
And these new guys are like, “um, dafuq?”
And yes, the government really is trying to get her to take a job and she is like, “lol, no”
She is a polite, well-mannered, and soft-spoken young woman, but god is she exuberant. And bouncy. And upbeat. And hard to keep up with.

I really don’t have an ending in mind for this character, or for that matter any plot at all.
I just know that she is well-known online, doesn’t give two fucks about money, and nobody really knows what to make of her: not the FBI, not her parents, not her peers at school, not the people in the online chat rooms she frequents, nobody.

Oh, and it’s also very hard to have a serious argument with her, because most serious things she doesn’t care about. This extends to the point where, on the rare occasion she is serious, everyone is kind of stunned for a while.

Also, I am well-aware how few of these characters have names. Naming characters has always been difficult for me. I don't know why

Ms. Graves- Daughter of Thanatos

This was an idea inspired by the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series. If you haven't read the books, you might not want to keep reading. If you have read the books and don't like the canon being disrupted, also don't keep reading. If you don't don't mind spoilers, don't mind fanfiction, or just want to wave your "don't tell me what to do" sign, then by all means, continue.

This character can be summed up in two words: Death's Daughter

Long explanation: Thanatos, or Death, long desired a child of his own. being a god it was certainly within his power, but he couldn't find anyone that interested him, and besides, he was busy. Working with Hades, that tends to happen.
One day he finds this girl, who somehow recognizes him through the Mist. She has been beaten and abused by her asshole of a boyfriend, and desires for Death to take her away from him.
For whatever reason, Thanatos becomes interested. Maybe it's the fact that she was one of the few who wasn't afraid of him, maybe it wasn't. In the end it doesn't matter. What Does matter is that he agreed to take her away, on the condition that she first bear him a child. He protected her for the duration of her pregnancy, until she gave birth. She bore him a daughter- his wish was granted. He took her soul to the Underworld, freeing her from a life of pain- her wish was granted also.

Despite wanting a child, Thanatos was a busy god, and besides which, there are laws about demigods, and one of the foremost among them is that they have to grow up in the mortal world. Only when they start attracting monsters are they picked up, escorted to camp, and claimed by their godly parents and trained to be heroes.
...
...
...yeah, that didn't happen.
I don't know when she first started fighting monsters, but it was early. Really early. Like, 6, or 7. Before any schooling, before any satyrs could find her. Thing was, she was good at killing monsters.
Incredibly good.

She never went to camp. She was one of those rare people that survived outside of camp. She survived by keeping on the move, constantly killing anything that got in her way.
In all honesty, she is probably a better fighter than Percy and Jason. Without bringing anything except refined physical force into play, she could hold her own against the entirety of the Seven (which is where you run into problems, yes i know). She gets by by running various errands for a number of gods, particularly minor ones. She is very good friends with Melinoe (goddess of ghosts) and Hecate (goddess of magick), though she does do the occasional favor for the major olympians (they utilize the campers under most circumstances.

Ok, I will edit this later, but we are about to leave, so let me get this down really quick.

Magic Items:
Spear- a seven-foot pike of a black metal. Maybe Stygian Iron, maybe not. Definitely not celestial bronze or Imperial gold
Meat hooks- a pair of enchanted, industrial meat hooks, like you would find in a slaughterhouse, which is where she found them, ironically. they are attached to chains that can magically elongate or contract, allowing her to hit something from 50 feet away, latch onto it, and draw herself in. She normally uses them like a pair of kusarigama, and fights very acrobatically. when not in use, they are hooked are her belt like accessories.
vials- Ms. Graves carries centaur's blood, basilisk venom, and pit scorpion venom. Because, you know, fuck living things in general.
M1911- loaded with celestial bronze bullets, this is only supposed to be used on monsters. you might think it was given to her by Ares, but no, she just found it, used it, liked it, and kept it.
Imperial gold knife- just what it sounds like. found it in some ruins. killed her way out with it.
Drakon tooth knife- She killed a dragon, and before it disintegrated she grabbed a tooth. She made a dagger out of it. What's fun is, this weapon doesn't care if you are monster, demigod, or immortal- it will kill you.
Dragon-tooth tipped spear- very similar to Franks Zhiang's spear. Can summon a spartus to kill things for her. can't decide if she found it or made it. probably made it.
Eagle wing tattoos- given to her by Zeus in order to settle a debt, these tattoos allow her to summon massive, feathery wings and fly (for a limited time per day, of course)
A pocketwatch with a core made from a drop of Chaos- I don't know what this does
A silver charm woven into her hair- given to her by her 'aunt', the goddess Melinoe, this charm could do any number of things, from summoning ghosts to making Graves incorporeal, to giving her a phone jack to the Underworld
Ring from Hades- haven't decided what it does yet; probably makes her able to move through shadows that she could see.
Familiar- an automotan spider the size of a real-life huntsman spider, this little celetial bronze wonder is semi-sentient, and excellent at finding traps and paths, and frequently helps her through puzzles. More often than not, this gift from Hephaestus is her only companion on her travels.

Abilities and Qualities
Deathtouch/glare- as her father is Death itself, Graves has the ability to cause death in a creature just by touching it or by 'willing it' to die. She is not quite as powerful as her father (duh) but she still has the ability to kill virtually anything she can see or touch, as long as it isn't a Titan or a God. And, of course, big enemies take more willpower than weaker enemies, but killing a lot of enemies will take more than killing one.
Magic- Graves was trained in sorcery by the goddess of magic herself, her aunt Hecate. Not quite as strong as Hecate's actual children, but more magic than anyone else could pull from the Mist.

Also, Graves' strength, speed, and constitution are on-par with, or exceeding, those of the Hunters of Artemis

Okay, done for now, talk to you soon

EDIT: Her first name is 'Anastasia', or just Stasia for short

Just saw the opening scene of the Last Of Us, and I had an idea:

D&D or semi-modern, maybe Necro AU

Guy in the middle of big battle, carrying his daughter.
Long story short, his daughter gets hit, and starts bleeding out. He tries to stop it, tries to save her, but she dies crying in his arms

So, he becomes a medic, a cleric or healing mage of some branch, so that he will never again not be able to save the life of someone he cares about.

I could have gone the way to the old, embittered man, but I thought to myself, eh, that's essentially what's being done in the game in front of me. Let's go the other way

One day I will make a character:

His name will be Mike

He will be a straight, white, upper middle-class, Christian male

He will have duplication

So what's the plot twist?

...

He's actually not a douchebag.

He will be a nice guy who just wants to help people

That's kind of the point, Mr. President

It's the kind of thing that is, under normal circumstances, impossible

So, naturally, I want to make it happen

creates character for the Pits who has been pursued for most of his life for crimes, and when he was caught by the Pit Fiends they just made it look like he disappeared

Honestly, the guy would probably be 'halfway' relieved. Because yeah, now he doesn't need to look over his shoulder and sleep with one eye open anymore
...buuuuut he now has to deal with tests that will probably kill him on a regular basis

The Arms-Dealer: a nearly- immortal man who sells weapons and technologies of war to anyone with coin. Fearless and inventive, sadistic and nigh-ammoral, he would gladly sell poisons to children, diseases to guards, and sunsplicers to footsoldiers. What his customers do with what they buy is none of his business, just don’t try to stab him in the back. The Arms-Dealer has to be twice as capable as any warrior, to ensure that he does not die to his own wares.

Character who can’t personally do anything special, but their mere presence brings success and good fortune.

NAAAAAAAMESSSS:

Lady Harley
David Killcreek
Magnificent Desolation
Kelly Scott
Valentina V Tereshkova
Mr. or Ms. Creedmoor
'Blood Doll'

Character point:

Character is pagan, and worships a number of different deities in his/her pantheon. In order to give an appropriate amount of time and respect to each, they worship a different deity at each meal. Not only does this provide a good way to plan out their schedule, but most everything else also: holidays, meetings, everything.

Almost like OCD, to be honest, but it is not so much a mental condition as it is an itinerary.

This is supposed to be one of the defining features of this character, and is thus subject to all sorts of difficulties. Example: the schedule is set in stone, so what happens when the character is getting proddings to worship ANOTHER deity, or several, while at the same time their time is being crunched due to job concerns.

Might use this for someone in Necroverse.

AHTZVENGRAUL!!!

RAVENS AND CROWS!!! (and magpies too, perhaps)
the ravens and crows return to her with bits of flesh, which they touch to her skin and she absorbs. With this flesh and the energy from it, she can sustain herself, regenerate injuries, the works. Not only that, but when flesh is brought to her, she can access bits and pieces of the victim's memories and thoughts (maybe she finds valuable information, maybe she finds out how much beer the poor bastard consumed the night before. either way, lots of information). Finally, I say magpies as an option because the birds can also put small items into her body for storage and later reclamation (must be small, for reason mentioned below). coins, keys, tools, notes, etc.
Downside: eventually, somewhere down the line, she is going to keel over and vomit out a pile of viscous concoction of bile, slime, and what appears to be old, coagulated blood (primarily black with undertones of red. hints of green). The items, if not summoned before this point, will be in the puddle. It is painful and more than mildly disgusting, but she has learned to deal with this side effect, to the point where even picking through the sludge doesn't bother her much at all.

++ also and: the birds are a mix of magical creation/conjuration and natural animals. They are, for the most part, normal birds, except that they can be unnaturally silent, and at times can be preternaturally quick. They can appear virtually anywhere and are utterly fearless. Even if someone does manage to kill one, she can just use the energy gained from consumption of a victim's flesh to resurrect it (making them virtually immortal, so long as she is still alive)

WILL UPDATE!!!

Blood/Pain mage

This character was inspired by the concept of magic from Daughter of Smoke and Bone and its sequels, especially tithe
This mage's magic is payed for and powered by pain, both that of the user and of those around her. The more pain she can absorb, the more magic she can use, and the stronger it is. On a battlefield, her magic is absolutely devastating.

It gets worse. She is an absolute sadist (not to mention a masochist) and has a passionate love of combat. She loves pain beyond reason: She has been known to fall to her knees in the aftermath of battle, in a state of near-orgasmic ecstasy from the over-abundance of pain in the air.

So what's the twist?
She's honestly not that bad of a person.

Sure, she is eccentric as the day is long, and loves hurting people, but she has her rules, and she abides by them.
She is a mercenary who will always give you a fair price, and even give you a chance to outbid another individual jockeying for her services. You just have to tell her what you will and will not allow in your camp.

She stands 6'3" in her bare feet, but is almost never seen without her 7-inch spike-heeled boots (literally, spike-heeled; the heels on these boots are practically silver stakes). She is also typically arrayed in black and red leather armor. Her hands are the parts I see the best: both of them are gauntleted. Her right hand is covered in quarter-inch spikes, while her left fingers are covered in brass, turning them into claws.

Little things: she always has a smile on her face, she never really gets angry (though you don't want to see what passes for anger), she hates anesthesia, even and especially in surgery, she is passionate about all sorts of little things
OH. and while there is little she Can't do with her pain magic, that doesn't mean she knows all of what she can do; if she sees someone do something with magic that she thinks is cool, she will spend a ridiculous amount of time and energy trying to figure out how she can do it (whether she actually plans to use that skill in the future or not)

I know I mentioned blood magic, and she does have it, but that is far less defined, so I will get back to that at a later date.

One last thing, i promise. She has a partner in mercenary-dom. He is a monk and is infected with some kind of lycanthropy. Again, I'll get to him later

Mr. Skinner
Dr. Flechette (pronounced fle-shay)
Count Dragulea
Dr. Wrathbone
A geek named Conan
Tahlia- the witch
Rancid
Belthic the Vast

Smokehead- a golem whose head constantly spews a cloud of thin smoke

Rule #1 about magic: always be the smartest person in the room. If you are going to use magic, plan, research, calculate, extrapolate. Know what you are going to do.

Her skin exuded the scents of copper, cordite, and a faint hint of chloroform. She smelled of pure violence.

Beat the devil out of her
Literally trying to beat or whip a demon out of someone. Not a great treatment for psych disorders. Character idea: young woman whose back was whipped bloody by some ‘excorcists’ who then left her for dead. THAT is when the demons approach her. She didn’t have demons before, but she does now

5’4 100-110 lbs. slender frame. Pretty face. Thin but shapely lips that grab attention without moving (key feature). Black north face jacket. Café t-shirt. Tight jeans, rhinestones on one check, rips on the side. Knee-length black leather zipper boots. Basic black ball cap. Clean, slightly wavy blonde hair, slightly beyond shoulder length.

Man of average height, heavy build, long blonde hair, full blonde goatee

Zoop

and then there was this guy

older mercenary, in his mid 30s, getting up there in age for a professional soldier. He follows Khorne (or the D&D equivalent) and has recently been told that his death is imminent. he was even given a brand on his chest to remind him.
Honestly, he doesn't mind. Most all of his friends from the old days have died already, and he has done plenty of killing in the service of his god. He just doesn't want to lay down and die- he wants his death to be something worth remembering. He wants to die to a worthy opponent.

Overall, as a character, he plays a lot like Sebastian Michaelis. He does a lot of things that are out of his way, things that might even at times be considered nice, but he always has a motive, and both npcs and party members are just a means of reaching it in the end.

Let's see. Big guy, probably 6'4-6'6. Muscular. Lawful evil. Stoic, calm, and polite. Wields a greatsword, but also carries an executioner's sword on his back for special occasions.

Just had to throw that one out there

Character concept: A girl doesn’t have arms- whether she lost them in an accident or was born without them is irrelevant; she doesn’t have them now. I thought about how she would get along in life, just doing normal things, like putting on pants and typing papers. Now, I could have gone the basic route, like giving her an aide, I could have gone the superpower route and given her psychokinesis, I could have even gone the complicated mechanical prosthesis route and given her robotic arms. But I didn’t; I went down the even more complicated mechanical route and gave her a spinal interface with four tentacle appendages. Think Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man, only female and college-aged.
