History - a poem Empty
PostSubject: History - a poem   History - a poem EmptyThu 8 Apr 2010 - 18:30

History is a cruel mistress
She tempts her lovers
with half-truths
and unsolvable mysteries

She lures those who
least expect it,
beckoning with
tales of grandeur.

Her trap closes in
on it's oblivious captives
as they feast on
a banquet of resplendent sagas.

But the banquet ends
and the captives are left.
Their veils of ignorance fall away
leaving them defenseless.

What started as many,
ends as few.
The weak, who are many, die.
The strong, who are few, remain.

The strong are consumed
by History's spell.
The know nothing but
her bittersweet embrace.

History is a cruel mistress
She tempts her lovers
with half-truths
and unsolvable mysteries.
